SC Justice inhibits from Torre de Manila case

/ 06:58 PM July 21, 2015

AN Associate Justice of the Supreme Court opted not to participate in the case filed by the Order of the Knights of Rizal against DMCI Property Developers Inc. for the construction of the Torre de Manila.

High Court’s Information Chief Theodore Te said Associate Justice Jose Perez inhibited from the case for conflict of interest because his son is a unit owner at Torre de Manila.

“Justice Perez recused himself for conflict of interest because his son is a unit owner at Torre de Manila. Under ethics rules, it is a mandatory ground to inhibit,” Te said.

On the other hand, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes were absent during Tuesday’s oral argument because they are both on wellness leave.
