7th fatality in Semirara mine collapse found

The seventh worker confirmed dead in the collapse of a wall of the Panian open mine on Semirara Island in Antique was found in this excavation on Monday, four days after the accident on July 17, 2015. Two workers are still missing. Nestor P. Burgos Jr./INQUIRER VISAYAS

SEMIRARA ISLAND, Antique, Philippines – The body of the seventh fatality in the deadly accident in the Panian mining pit on Semirara Island in Antique was recovered Monday afternoon.

The public information office of the municipality of Caluya and the Semirara Mining and Power Corp. identified the fatality as Noel Peñola, a native of Parang, Maguindanao.

His dismembered body was recovered at 4:55 p.m. and identified through a tattoo on the right shoulder.

Two more workers, Danilo Bayhon and Ian Catulay, remain missing after the mine collapse on July 17, 2015.
