NGOs shed tears for Archie King

Community service organizations on Monday mourned Archimedes “Archie” King’s death

Jeffrey Tarayao, president of Meralco Foundation, said: “Tito Archie was a very humble man. He is a man of few words but you can feel the depth of his patriotism. His actions really speak louder than his words.”

Gawad Kalinga (GK), a nongovernment organization that builds houses for the poor, said in an official statement that King had championed its cause even from the early days of GK.

“He was with us in the first GK Global Summit in Boston, built countless multipurpose centers nationwide through the years, supported GKonomics and funded a GK village because he believed in transforming communities and building a better world.

“Despite a health challenge, he funded the construction of the first-ever Arch Angel Center for Arts and Culture at GK Enchanted Farm to nurture the dreams of aspiring youth and the rising poor. And he even made sure he visited and met the young people who would benefit from the program,” GK said.

It added that King “was always extremely kind, generous and willing to help, and we applaud with the angels in heaven as they welcome a good and faithful servant. Rest in peace, Tito Archie. Your legacy will live on in every GK community you have helped empower. Salamat po sa inspirasyon! (Thank you for the inspiration)”–Doris Dumlao-Abadilla
