THE state weather bureau warned of possible flooding as Binga Dam in Benguet has released water.

The Binga reservoir spillway was opened at 2 p.m. Monday, according to Esperanza Cayanan, weather division head of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

The villages that may be affected are Dalupirip, Tinungdan and Itogon.

The waters from Binga will go to San Roque Dam, which has a water level of 234.34 meters as of Monday morning. Its spilling level is at 280 meters.

Rains dumped by Tropical Storm Egay (Linfa) caused the waters in some major reservoirs to rise but not significantly, Cayanan noted.

In Angat Dam in Bulacan, water level was at 169.33 meters as of Monday morning from Sunday’s 169.19 meters. The spilling level of Angat is at 210.00 meters.

“That’s not enough,” Cayanan said.

Angat Dam is responsible for most of Metro Manila’s water supply.

Cayanan said she hopes that the rains in the next few days will result in the rise of water levels in major reservoirs.
