CLASSES in all levels and government work in Metro Manila were ordered suspended by Malacañang on Monday afternoon as rains spawned by Tropical Storm “Egay” pounded the National Capital Region.

The Palace issued Memorandum Circular 77 in ordering the suspension of classes and work in government offices.

Asked why the suspension was ordered only in the afternoon when most local government units in the metropolis have already made suspension announcements, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said: “Ang pasya ay batay sa pagtutok sa accumulated rainfall na umabot sa critical level ngayong hapon lamang.”

Meanwhile, the Metro Manila Development Authority lifted the number coding Monday afternoon.

In its 3: 24 p.m. advisory, the MMDA said the number coding was lifted “to enable workers to go home early due to the suspension of government work.”

The suspension of classes and government work came as the weather bureau raised Yellow rainfall alert over Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan and Pampanga.

This means flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
