Classes suspended in Metro Manila, provinces due to bad weather

Classes in different schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces have been suspended on Monday due to bad weather.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) earlier issued a yellow rainfall warning over the metropolis and adjacent areas. The yellow alert means that expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm (heavy rains).

The state weather bureau also warned of possible flooding.

As of 11:15 a.m., classes in all levels have been suspended in the following areas: Makati City, Manila (including city hall operations), Pateros, San Juan, Cainta, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, San Fernando City in La Union, Bauang, La Union, Agoo, La Union, Baguio City, Abra, and Cavite.

Classes from pre-school to high school have also been suspended in Pasig, Quezon City, Malabon, Valenzuela City, Navotas, Pasay City, Marikina City, Mandaluyong City, Las Pinas City, Caloocan City, Muntinlupa City, Paranaque City, Rodriguez in Rizal, Olongapo City, Alaminos in Pangasinan, Lemery, Batangas, Calatagan, Batangas, Calaca, Batangas, and Balayan, Batangas.

Classes at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila, University of Caloocan, University of Santo Tomas (including office work), City of Malabon University, and City of Malabon Polytechnic Institute have also been suspended.

Rains in Luzon and Metro Manila are being caused by the “habagat” or southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Egay.”
