‘Egay’ warning signals 1 and 2 still up over 13 provinces
Tropical Storm “Egay” (international name: Linfa) is maintaining its strength while moving over Luzon Sea, the state weather bureau said late Sunday night.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its 11 p.m. bulletin Sunday said that Egay was tracked 125 kilometers southwest of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte as of 10 p.m., still packing maximum winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.
It is forecast to move northwest at a slower 9 kph from Saturday night’s 11 kph, headed for Batanes.
Public storm warning signal No. 2 is still up over Batanes, Cagayan (including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands), Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra, while signal No. 1 remains over
Pangasinan, Isabela, Benguet, La Union, Mt. Province and Ifugao.
Residents in mountainous and low lying areas of the provinces under signals 1 and 2, as well as the rest of Northern and Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Mimaropa (Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan provinces) and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces) are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Fishermen and small sea crafts are also advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.
Egay is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday morning.–Rick Alberto
