Binay camp hits foes as VP’s trust, approval ratings soar

The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay hit its political foes on Monday, saying that attacking the vice president proved disadvantageous to other 2016 presidential aspirants.
Reacting to the results of the Pulse Asia survey which showed Binay as the most trusted government official and the one who gained the highest approval rating, the Vice President’s spokesperson for political affairs, Rico Quicho, said that it only showed that Filipinos appreciated his “hard work.”
“The latest results of the Pulse Asia Survey show that the people appreciate his hard work and dedication to public service. More importantly, it highlights that attacking the Vice President does not make his political opponents prepared for the job of the presidency,” Quicho said in a statement.
The lawyer said that the ongoing Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee hearings, which seek to investigate corruption allegations against Binay and his cohorts, only aims to discredit the vice president.
Quicho said that while Binay’s foes focus on politicking, the vice president will continue his service to the Filipino people.
“The Vice President will continue with his public service and concentrate to fight poverty and rising income inequality. He will move for inclusive economic growth while others play petty politics. The Vice President’s political opponents’ rhetoric does not match their record,” he added.
According to the results of the Pulse Asia survey released on Monday, Binay got a 57 percent trust rating and a 58 percent approval rating. He is followed by President Benigno Aquino III (50 percent trust rating and 54 approval rating) and Senate President Franklin Drilon (45 percent trust rating and 49 percent approval rating).
The survey only included top officials of major branches of government.
