Free LRT, MRT, Pasig River Ferry rides on Independence Day

COMMUTERS can avail themselves of free rides during limited hours on the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit 3 in celebration of the 117th Independence Day on Friday.

The free rides in the said train systems will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and the Metro Rail Transit System announced through their official Facebook account.

LRT Line 1 plies the stretch from Baclaran in Parañaque to Roosevelt, Quezon City, while Line 2 runs from Recto in Manila to Santolan in Marikina City. On the other hand, MRT 3 runs from Taft in Pasay City to North Avenue in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the Metro Manila Development Authority announced that the public could avail themselves free rides in the Pasig River Ferry on Friday.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said that the free rides in the ferry system would be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Ten passenger boats ply the 11 Pasig River ferry stations: Pinagbuhatan and San Joaquin in Pasig City, Guadalupe and Valenzuela in Makati City, Hulo in Mandaluyong City, PUP Sta. Mesa, Sta. Ana, Lambingan, Escolta, Liwasang Bonifacio and Plaza Mexico in Manila.

Tolentino said that since its resumption last year, the ferry system provides passengers an alternative mode of transportation amid Metro Manila’s traffic woes.
