THE  National Police Commission has raised the amount of benefits its scholars are receiving to cope with the increasing tuition and other fees in schools and keep up with K to 12 program.

The beneficiaries include the children of 44 policemen killed in the Mamasapano operation and other deceased or permanently incapacitated police officers.

Napolcom vice chairman Eduardo Escueta said in statement on Tuesday that financial benefits of elementary, secondary and vocational scholars were increased by 50-percent, while college scholars are granted a 36-percent raise per semester.

“The Commission finds it necessary to increase the scholarship benefits to Napolcom grantees scholars as well as adjust the standing policy on entitlement for the grant of scholarship in order to cope with the continued inflationary cost of tuition and miscellaneous school expenses prescribed by the different institutions of learning and in consideration of the K to 12 Program,” Escueta said.

The revised amounts for tuition, other fees and miscellaneous expenses are ₱10,000 per school year for a kindergarten scholar; from ₱12,000 to ₱18,000 per school year for an elementary scholar; from ₱16,000 to ₱24,000 per school year for a high school scholar; from ₱12,000 to ₱18,000 per semester for a vocational scholar; and from ₱22,000 to ₱30,000 per semester for a college scholar.

Amounts of scholarship grants have been revised under Napolcom Memorandum Circular 2015-001, which said that all beneficiaries of Napolcom’s scholarship program would receive an increase in financial benefits covering the K to 12 Program.

He said the beneficiaries have been told to coordinate with regional Napolcom offices for the release of benefits. However, beneficiaries must submit first a  copy of the proof of enrollment with corresponding receipts or submit a copy of fees assessment from the school.

“The award of financial scholarship benefits for tuition [and other] fees and miscellaneous expenses to the scholar will be paid directly to the school where he or she is enrolled or reimbursed to the said scholar by the commission upon presentation of his or her approved enrollment or registration form and official receipt of payment,” Escueta added.

Napolcom scholars are required to maintain an average academic grade of 2.75 or 80-percent per semester for college and vocational levels, and 80-percent per school year for secondary and elementary levels. AC
