Senator Nancy Binay mocked a colleague’s claim that her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, would eventually withdraw from the 2016 presidential race.

“Nakakalungkot kasi imbes na ipagdasal niya ‘yung mga kababayan natin na nangangailangan e kung baga, ano ‘yun, mapabuti ‘yung buhay nila. I think pinagdadasal niya na ‘Lord, please, huwag nang tumakbo si Vice para may pag-asa ako!’ (It’s sad because instead of praying for the needy and our unfortunate countrymen, to make their lives better. Instead, he’s praying for the Vice President not to run [in 2016 elections] so he has more chances of getting elected,)” Binay told reporters Monday when asked about Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s belief that the Vice President would withdraw his presidential bid.

It was Trillanes who initiated the Senate investigation into corruption allegations against the Vice President. Trillanes openly declared his desire to run for Vice President in 2016.

“Kailangan by default para manalo sila? Bakit, ‘di ba? Magpakitaan kayo kung ano ang nagawa ninyo at kaya ninyong gawin. Hindi ‘yung mananalo ka kasi ‘yung kalaban mo e kung baka e tinechnical mo at hindi dahil dun sa pinakita mo kung ano ‘yung kakayahan mo (You mean by default they will win? Why? Show what you can do. It’s not that you’ll win because your opponent [lost or withdrew from the race due to technicality] not because of what you can do [as a public servant]),” Senator Binay said.

Asked if her statement was directed at Trillanes or Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the presumptive standard-bearer of the administration’s Liberal Party, the lady senator said: “E bahala sila kung sinong matamaan silang dalawa (It’s up to them if they feel alluded to).”

She also joked about having her own PowerPoint presentation to expose those who have been behind the attacks against her father.

“Naiinggit na ako kasi naman (I am envious because) for 10 months lagi silang may (they always have) PowerPoint presentation,” she said in jest, apparently referring to her father’s accusers, including Trillanes, who used PowerPoint presentation to show the alleged corruption and irregularities committed by the Vice President.

During Monday’s hearing of the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee, Trillanes himself presented a slideshow to show what he described as “pattern” or “template” of corruption allegedly perpetrated by the Vice President.
