To save time, the good news for LRT-MRT commuters is there will be only one ticket to unify all train routes. The bad news is no more last-ride bonus.

The new unified ticket for Light Railway Transit Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit 3, also known as “beep” card, will not have the last-ride bonus currently being enjoyed by passengers on their stored value tickets.

This was announced by LRT spokesperson, Atty. Hernando Cabrera, on his official Twitter account on Monday.

“There will be no more last ride bonus for the new beep stored value unified ticket,” he said.

Cabrera has not cited any reason yet as to why there will be no last-ride bonus in the new “tap and go” tickets.

Responding to a query by a netizen, Cabrera said that if the remaining value in one’s “beep” card is insufficient to complete one’s trip, the commuter will need to load an additional amount.

The beep card will cost P20 and can be loaded with as little as P11 up to a maximum of P10,000 and can be used up to four years.

The load in the beep card will have no expiration, Cabrera said. Previously, stored value tickets in the MRT3 and LRT 1 and 2 are valid only for three months and six months from the date of its first use, respectively.

Cabrera said that commuters can monitor the balance of their beep card through vending machines and ticket gates in the three railway systems.

The new beep cards will also be available through retailers outside stations.

Inquirer earlier reported that the “tap-and-go” ticketing system will start rolling out in LRT 2 in May, MRT 3 in June and LRT 1 in July.

Meanwhile, Cabrera clarified that single journey tickets will still be available on the railway line where the tickets will be sold. TVJ
