A low-pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao is expected to bring light to moderate rain over Eastern Visayas and the Caraga Region on Thursday and Friday, according to the weather bureau.

In Metro Manila and Luzon, isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are forecast as temperatures are seen to rise to 35 degrees Celsius between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday. However, temperatures could feel as hot as 39.7 degrees, based on the heat index of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The heat index, also called the human discomfort index, refers to the temperature felt by the body based not only on the air temperature but also on humidity.

The Department of Health has cautioned the public to guard against heat stroke, especially since the heat index for Metro Manila is forecast to reach 40.4 degrees on Friday.

Pagasa said the LPA which was last observed 460 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur had a low chance of developing into a storm.

The easterlies, or warm winds from the east, continue to affect the eastern section of the country.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, Pagasa said.

The hottest temperature in Metro Manila on Wednesday was at 35.6 degrees Celsius at 2:45p.m.

Light to moderate winds from the east to southeast will prevail over Northern Luzon. For the rest of the country, winds will be from the east to northeast. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.  Alyssa Marie Jacinto/inquirer.net/trainee/CB
