Incorruptible but ‘dumb’

/ 05:35 AM March 24, 2015

The more President Noynoy opens his mouth on the Mamasapano debacle, the more he exposes his weak and irresponsible leadership.

This time, he’s blaming suspended Philippine National Police Chief Alan Purisima, his best friend, for the fiasco.

It would be better for the President to shut up.

By further opening his mouth, he  exposes the country to ridicule to the rest of the world.

Folks, let’s grin and bear it: we have a weak and irresponsible President!

It’s our fault we elected to the highest post of the land somebody who grew up spoiled, somebody who didn’t hold any responsibility at home while growing up because he is the “unico hijo” (only son) among the Cojuangco-Aquino brood.

As congressman and then senator he was a do-nothing public official.

We voted for him because he was a mama’s boy and became the popular choice when his mama, former President Cory, died.

We also fondly remember the martyred former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, his father.

We wanted to perpetuate the memory of Cory and Ninoy through their son. Sadly, their son hasn’t measured up.

Vice President Jojo Binay said the Office of the Ombudsman has mocked the Court of Appeals when it ignored the court’s order to withhold its suspension order on his son, Makati Mayor Junjun.

The suspension order stems from graft charges against the younger Binay with the Ombudman’s office.

The elder Binay said ignoring the appellate court’s temporary restraining order (TRO) was tantamount to mocking the court.

“It is like they (the Ombudsman and the Department of the Interior and Local Government [DILG], which carried out the Ombudsman’s suspension order—RT) were saying the justices were dumb,” the Vice President said.

The “dumb” description of the justices came from Binay himself, not from the Office of the Ombudman or the DILG.

I said in my previous column the justices were incorruptible, so they couldn’t have been bribed into issuing the TRO, but they are probably what Binay described them.

If those justices are not dumb, how could they have missed a provision in the Ombudsman Act of 1989 which states that “no writ of injunction shall be issued by any court to delay an investigation being conducted by the Ombudsman, unless there is prima facie evidence that the investigation is outside of the Office of the Ombudsman.”

If they’re not dumb, why would they issue a TRO knowing full well it would not be carried out?

Binay is still leading in the popularity polls for possible presidential candidates in the 2010 elections despite the charges of corruption against him and his son.

That means that the poor and masses who don’t think don’t believe the corruption charges or they just don’t care.

If the masses, who elect our national leaders because of their sheer number, continue to have faith in Binay until 2016, then heaven help the Philippines!
