MANILA, Philippines—Police Chief Superintendent Moro Virgilio Lazo will be named as the new head of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force on Wednesday.

Lazo will replace sacked SAF head Director Getulio Napeñas and will be officially appointed in a ceremony on Wednesday morning, Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said in a text message.

In a separate text message to INQUIRER.net, Lazo asked the media to wait for the official turnover of the post at 10 a.m.

But he said: “I would not want to assume although I was informed that I was chosen.”

FEATURED STORIES

Lazo, a former SAF trooper, is head of the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).

He was recently in the news when he was quoted on the alleged accidental shooting of Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, who is still confined at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

FEO was asked to confirm how many licensed firearms the young Revilla has in its record. Lazo did not disclose how many Jolo had and which of these was involved in the alleged accident.

Lazo was quoted as saying his office had yet to receive a formal request for firearm verification from the task group created by the National Capital Region Police Office to investigate the incident.

Earlier Inquirer reports revealed that prior to his FEO post, Lazo was deputy regional police director for operations of Central Luzon.

He was also former director of Cagayan Provincial Police Office.
