Don’t forward bomb messages, PNP urges public

MANILA, Philippines—Following the circulation Monday night of a text message that claimed of threats of bombings in Metro Manila, the police asked the public on Tuesday not to pass on such information.
“Minsan yung nagpapakana ng ganitong misinformation, they are banking na ma-sensationalize yung SMS at ipapasa ito. Yun ang advise natin sa kababayan, wag na i-share,” (Those who initiate such misinformation are banking that it would become sensational and pass it on. Our advice to our countrymen is not to share it) said PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. in a media briefing.
Cerbo asked the public to ignore the text message so as not to fan the flames and “create a chaotic atmosphere.”
On Monday night, a text message circulated urging people to “go home early and avoid MRT and malls this week.”
“We just received an information from our assets that there’s a planned bombing in the following areas below:
- Quezon City
- Pasig City
- Taguig City
- Makati City
Possible target areas are malls, MRT’s and other high traffic areas/public places,” the text message read.
A Muslim group, the text added, was behind the bomb threat and is “possibly hiding in Maharlika Village in Taguig.”
“In view of this, we would like to request everyone to stay away from public places.” it concluded.
