The Pope doesn’t need the unspent donations

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), an organization that trains young boys to become law-abiding citizens, is now the Boys “Cawat” of the Philippines.

For the non-Visayan, cawat means theft. Cawatan or kawatan is a person who engages in cawat.

The BSP has gone down to the pits because of the current controversy involving its president, Vice President Jojo Binay.

Parents with high moral values would not want their child to become a boy scout at this time because of the current controversy involving the BSP.

Pati mga bata hindi pinaligtas na nakawan. (Even children have not been spared from theft.)

And we’re talking here of large-scale theft.

What would Jesus of Nazareth have done to persons who teach children to commit sins?

This corner commends Prosecutor General Claro Arellano for ordering the release of a housemaid who was wrongfully charged with theft by her employer.

Celerina Zamora, 32, had been in jail from Jan. 4 until yesterday when Arellano ordered her release from detention.

Zamora was charged with qualified theft, a nonbailable offense, by Dr. Vilma Mendoza of Imperial Bayfront Tower, Malate, Manila.

Mendoza claimed Zamora stole two of her wristwatches and $100.

Even if the police didn’t find the supposedly stolen items and cash in Zamora’s belongings, they still charged her.

Inquest prosecutor Ronaldo E. Hubilla, who should know better, elevated the case to the courts.

My public service program, “Isumbong Mo Kay Tulfo,” brought Zamora’s plight to Arellano’s attention.

Unspent donations to Pope Francis during his recent visit to the Philippines will be sent to the Vatican to help the Pope’s charities worldwide, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said.

Susmaryosep, CBCP! Stop bootlicking!

The money is more needed here than anywhere else in the world.

It will benefit the country’s poorest of the poor, the reason Francis came to visit.

Charity begins at home.

The Vatican doesn’t need the unspent donations because the Catholic Church is the richest organization in the world, its wealth beyond measure.

Pope Francis appreciates the most rousing welcome the country has ever given a foreign dignitary.

The crowd at the Luneta that came to see the Pope officiate at Mass was the largest ever to have attended any gathering of the Catholic faithful in any part of the world.

There was a lot of money spent on the Pope’s visit.

Add to that the number of man hours lost because of the three-day holiday.
