MANILA, Philippines — Former Iloilo Representative Augusto Syjuco on Monday asked the Supreme Court to stop the Metro Rail Transit and the Light Rail Transit fare hike.

In his 12-page petition, he also urged the High Court to nullify Department Order 014 issued by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) approving the fare hike.

“The approval and implementation of the LRT and MRT fare increases are patently unconstitutional and unlawful … Every commuter availing of the LRT and MRT services stands to pay increased fares to their detriment, damage and prejudice,” Syjuco said in his petition.
