Road Revo 3 moved to Nov.
The next Road Revolution sequel has been moved from Oct. 23 to November.
Environment lawyer Antonio Oposa Jr. said convenors decided to move the date to give more time to prepare for the event.
After Saturday’s road closures of Colon Street and two downtown roads set off complaints from the riding public and store owners, who were caught by surprise by sudden route changes, Oposa said advocates would spend more time explaining their aim, mechanics of the experiment, and benefits to stakeholders.
On Oct. 23, convenors plan to meet with transport and business sector representatives in Cebu city for “better understanding” of their advocacy before staging a third Road Revolution activity in Osmeña Boulevard in November.
Yesterday, transport leader Ryan Benjamin Yu leader in Cebu, warned that the plan to close half of Osmeña Boulevard would cause problems.
Yu, president of Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (Citrasco), said they should only be allowed to use secondary and tertiary routes to avoid affecting traffic flow in the main thoroughfares.
Yu, who is also the chairman of the 1-United Transport Kaolisyon (1-UTAK) in Central Visayas, said his group wasn’t totally opposed to the Road Revolution but Saturday’s incident shouldn’t be repeated.
He said there should be proper coordination, advance information and proper dissemination of the activity.
“Kinahanglang masiguro unta nila nga di magkayagaw ang dagan sa trapiko sama sa nahitabo adtong sabado,” he added.
Yu said organizers must also evaluate if the road closure served its purpose.
He said it was unfair to close a road for a few bikers compared to the hundreds of passengers who were affected.
Yu said only around 20 bikers roamed the closed roads on Saturday and the pedestrians seen walking were mostly commuters who were forced to walk to reach their destinations.
Yu also called on the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), which approved the road closures, to consult the transport sector in approving a permit for another Road Revolution activity. /Candeze R. Mongaya and Jhunnex Napallacan
