Tipsters get P12.1 million for helping in the arrest of NPA, Abu Sayyaf rebels

MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines will hand out P12.1 million pesos of cash reward to four tipsters who contributed information that led to the arrests of wanted criminals.

AFP Vice Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General John Bonafos will lead the distribution of cash rewards to the informants on Tuesday at Camp Aguinaldo.

The AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Major General Virgilio Hernandez; Chief, Intelligence Service AFP, Brigadier General Arnold Quiapo; and Commander, Civil Relations Service chief Brig. Gen. Romeo G. Gan will also attend the ceremony.

“The valuable information provided by the informants led to the successful arrest of an NPA leader and three members of the Abu Sayyaf Group,” the AFP Public Affairs Office said in a statement.

The AFP said the following personalities were arrested due to the information of the tipsters:

-Loida Magpatoc, a “notorious” communist leader, carried a reward money of P5.6 million. She was put on the wanted list of criminals for serious offenses such as robbery, double homicide and damage to properties in several occasions. Her group also led attacks in both South Cotabato and North Cotabato from 2008 to 2010. She was arrested in Davao del Sur on July 28, 2013.

-Abu Sayyaf members identified Basal Talb Sali also known as ‘Gong-Gong Sali’ and “Abu Husni,” carried a total of P5.3-Million bounty on their head. Another Abu Sayyaf member named Muktar Ladjaperma and Jailanl Basirul carried P600,000.00 as cash reward for their arrests.

Sali was arrested in Payatas, Quezon City on July 25, 2012. Ladjaperma, meanwhile, was arrested at Zamboanga City International Airport on June 3, 2013. Basirul, on the other hand, was nabbed in Zamboanga City on March 15, 2013.

They reward program is based on the Department of National Defense-Department of Interior and Local Government Joint Order on Rewards that was promulgated in November 2012.
