MANILA, Philippines–Vice President Jejomar Binay’s camp on Friday said the top official was optimistic with the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey despite a substantial drop in his performance and trust ratings.

“Vice President Jejomar C. Binay respects the results of the Pulse Asia survey,” his spokesperson, Joey Salgado, said in a statement.

“He is thankful for the continued trust and support of the people despite the campaign of lies being waged by his political detractors in the Senate and media,” Salgado added.

Among the top five government officials, Binay suffered the biggest drop in ratings. His performance approval rating plunged to 45 percent in November from 66 percent in September while his trust rating dropped to 44 percent in November from 64 percent in September.

Salgado said Binay will remain focused on his work and will not be distracted by “no amount of mudslinging.”

The same Pulse Asia survey found Binay’s voter preference rating, if presidential elections were held today, falling from 31 percent in September to 26 percent in November.

Earlier, the Vice President described the drop in his voter rating as “good,” considering the circumstances.

“Good if my ratings declined but not too much, better if I retained my 31-percent rating, and best if it improved. What happened was good. It would have been bad if I suffered a double-digit decline,” Binay said in Filipino.
