Fruit vendor arrested in Baguio for transporting 41 kilos of marijuana

MANILA,‎ Philippines — A fruit vendor moonlighting as a marijuana trader was nabbed by anti-narcotics agents after she was found transporting 44 bricks of dried cannabis leaves (marijuana) at a Baguio City passenger terminal.

Authorities found Antonette Campiwer Churping, alias Monette Sudcaren, in possession of the marijuana bricks which were stuffed in a bag of clothes, a box of bananas and a sack of dried peanuts.

Churping was arrested at a bus and jeepney (Asian utility vehicle) terminal in Slaughter‎ Compound, Barangay (village) Sto. Niño at about 7 p.m. on Thursday, last week.

Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr., Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general, said on Wednesday the 41 kilos of marijuana came from Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Churping, who lives in Pinget, Baguio City, is a native of Sadanga, Mountain Province.

‎Authorities will charge the woman with transporting prohibited drugs in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Cacdac said the complaint would be filed before the Baguio City Prosecutor’s Office.

Churping is under custody at the PDEA regional office.
