Surigao Sur villages, towns flooded due to ‘Queenie;’ dozens of families evacuated

surigao-del-sur-mapAGUSAN DEL SUR, Philippines – Several villages in neighboring Tandag City and the towns of Cagwwait, San Miguel and Tago in Surigao del Sur were struck by flash floods brought by heavy rains spawned by tropical depression “Queenie” on Wednesday night, causing several hours of power outages in these affected areas.

The Philippine Information Agency-Caraga regional office in Butuan City reported that 25 families in the affected villages were evacuated as part of pre-emptive action by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).

Abel de Guzman, PDRRMC officer, however, said the situation was manageable and no damage has been reported.

In Surigao City, a total of 274 residents were also evacuated by the disaster response team.
