CLAVERIA Misamis Oriental – Soldiers conducting post-encounter operation in Barangay (village) Minalwang here on Thursday stumbled on a body believed to be that of a communist rebel.

Lt. Col. Lennon Babilonia, commander of the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion, said the still unidentified slain rebel was discovered inside a forested area of Minalwang as soldiers scoured the vicinity following this week’s series of clashes there.

“Also recovered with the NPA member was his AK-47 rifle, several ammunition, and CPP-NPA-NDF documents,” Babilonia said.

He said soldiers conducting the post-encounter operation also found traces of blood in the area.

“There were bloodstains in the encounter site so we believe that there were other NPA members who got wounded. We are calling on them to go down so that they can be given proper medical attention and not to be afraid as our government, through our LGUs, is most willing to help them,” he said.
