MANILA, Philippines—On its fourth try, the Manila Police District finally captured the city’s “most wanted” man on Friday, a suspect accused of robbery, murder, drug peddling and, more recently, lobbing grenades at an MPD station.

Christopher Bajar, 31, denied all the charges when later presented to Mayor Joseph Estrada, who asked him pointblank if they were true.

Bajar, who the MPD said also used the alias Christopher Mendoza, was arrested in an operation at the Aroma Temporary Housing Compound on R10 in Tondo around 2:30 p.m.

Supt. Raymund Liguden, chief of MPD’s intelligence division, said an informant led them to Bajar’s location in Building 33. After an hour-long surveillance operation, a brief chase had him cornered in a neighboring building.

Liguden said it was the MPD’s fourth attempt to catch the man, who is wanted for robbery, drug dealing, illegal possession of explosives and frustrated murder in Manila, and for murder in Malabon City.

The MPD also linked Bajar to the recent grenade attacks on its Raxabago-Tondo station. Annelle Tayao-Juego
