Health exec bans sale of salted eggs in Pangasinan city
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines–The health officer of San Carlos City on Tuesday banned the sale of salted eggs in that city as the number of food poisoning cases rose to 19 on Monday.
Dr. Edwin Guinto, city health officer, said the ban would be temporary and would be lifted if food poisoning cases stopped. He said five more persons were taken to the hospital on Monday after eating salted eggs.
Guinto said the salted eggs sold in San Carlos City came from another town in Pangasinan province.
On Friday, six persons from Barangay Payar in San Carlos City were taken to a hospital after eating salted eggs they bought from the city’s public market.
On Oct. 21, a father and his two sons from Barangay Palaming were treated in a hospital after they showed signs of food poisoning from salted eggs that they bought from a vendor in their village. They were followed by four more food poisoning victims from Barangay Pangpang on Oct. 29 and another one on Oct. 30.
Health officials said the youngest victim was a two-year-old girl while the oldest was a 56-year-old woman.
They said the victims suffered from diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pains.
In June, at least 71 people from seven eastern Pangasinan towns and Urdaneta City were treated in different hospitals for salted eggs poisoning.
