Suspected NPA leader arrested in Davao

davao city mapMANILA, Philippines–A suspected high-ranking leader of the New People’s Army was arrested by combined police and military troops in Davao, the military said Friday.

Dominiciano Muya, known as Marco/Atoy, a regional staff of the Southern Mindanao Regional Party Committee (SMRC), was arrested while onboard a motorcycle at a checkpoint in Mankilam village in Tagum City on Thursday past 1p.m., Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Captain Alberto Caber said.

Muya has a P4.8 million bounty on his head. He was allegedly involved in the killing of Police Officers 1 Marito Correos and Rey Mongayo Ejercito in Bayugan in Agusan del Sur in 2004 and Second Lieutenant Lucresio Julampong Jr. in Davao Oriental in 2009.

He also faces robbery and other criminal charges.

A caliber 45 pistol, a hand grenade, two cellular phones and other documents were confiscated upon his arrest, Caber said.

Muya was also a former staff of the Communist Party of the Philippines/ NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee and former Secretary of the SMRC.
