‘Ompong’ exits PH Saturday–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines– Super Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Vongfong) is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.

In its 10 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the typhoon was at 840 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with packed maximum winds of 165 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

It was forecast to move north northwest at 13 kilometers per hour.

Ompong is the strongest typhoon to enter the Philippines this year but did not make landfall.

Pagasa in an advisory also said that as of posting time, a thunderstorm is affecting Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela.

The weather bureau advised the public to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods.
