Soliman defends P78-B Pantawid Pamilya budget

MANILA, Philippines—Social welfare secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman defended the P78-billion proposed budget for 2015 for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s), stressing that it will be used to fund the implementation of the modified provisional conditional cash transfer (MPCCT) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The 2015 budget for the 4P’s was P15.4 billion more than its 2014 budget, which amounted to PP62.6 billion.
Speaking in a press conference during the Pantawid Pamilya Nationwide Family Day & Convergence Caravan held at the PhilSports Arena (formerly Ultra) in Pasig City Sunday morning, Soliman said that the MPCCT would pay for the rent of the program’s recipients for one year.
The program will also provide livelihood opportunities for the beneficiaries.
The target recipients of the modified provisional cash transfer programs are members of indigenous communities and street dwellers.
4.1 M recipients
DSWD also announced that that the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s) has benefitted 4,166,638 beneficiaries as of August 2014.
Soliman said that the department seeks to widen the program’s reach to accommodate 4.3 million recipients by the end of 2014.
“Halos naabot na ng Pantawid Pamilya Program ang buong Pilipinas maliban sa Batanes at karamihan ang bilang nito ay galing sa ARMM,” Soliman said.
(The Pantawid Pamilya Program has been implemented nationwide except Batanes and the majority of those who benefited from the program hailed from ARMM.)
