Meralco cuts power in flooded areas in NCR, nearby provinces

MANILA, Philippines—In order to ensure the safety of its customers, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Friday cut electricity in areas hit by heavy rains and flooding brought by tropical storm “Mario” (international name: Fung-Wong), affecting 137,946 customers in the National Capital Region (NCR), Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan.

As of 1 p.m, Meralco cut off the electricity in flooded areas in Tondo, Navotas City, Malabon City, Valenzuela City, Marikina City, Paranaque City, and Pasay City.

Electricity in several barangays (villages) in Quezon City has also been cut off: Balintawak, La Loma, New Manila, San Francisco Del Monte, San Jose, Kamuning, Balintawak & Pugad Lawin.

Areas outside Metro Manila which were hit by tropical storm “Mario” were also affected by power interruption implemented by Meralco. Power was cut off in Calamba and Los Baños in Laguna province.

The power supply in Antipolo, Cainta, Baras, Binangonan, Cardona, Jala-jala, Morong, Teresa, Tanay, San Mateo, Pililla and Rodriguez in Rizal province have also been cut off.

Meycuayan in Bulacan province was also affected.

Meralco vowed that power will be restored as soon as floods subside in the affected areas.
