MANILA, Philippines—The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on Saturday opened a counterflow lane along Camachille in Balintawak to decongest traffic, an NLEX traffic specialist said.

Michael Mallari of the traffic control room said one lane of the northbound portion of the NLEX was opened to give way to motorists especially cargo trucks going to A. Bonifacio Avenue in Manila.

Mallari said the counterflow scheme was expected to help decongest the traffic caused by the volume of trucks going to the Port of Manila.

He advised motorists going to Metro Manila to take the Mindanao Avenue exit.

As of Saturday noon, Mallari said traffic at the northbound and southbound lanes of NLEX was light.

On Friday, motorists experienced a nine-kilometer-long traffic jam on the southbound lanes NLEX forcing commuters to walk going to Balintawak in Quezon City.
