MANILA, Philippines – It’s time for change of leadership in the Intelligence Services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Brigadier General Arnold Quiapo replaced Major General Eduardo Año as ISAFP chief Wednesday as the latter assumed as commander of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division on July 25.

Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala, AFP Public Affairs Office Chief, said that Quiapo is very much capable of handling the Intelligence post of the AFP as the one-star general has been an intelligence officer before.

“Quiapo has handled a wide range of assignments since he was a lieutenant. He served under different commands, he has been an Intelligence officer, he trained here and abroad that makes him suitable,” Zagala said.

Before assuming the post as ISAFP chief, Quiapo was the commander of the 301st Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based in Dingle, Iloilo from December 2011 until his appointment to ISAFP.

Quiapo was also the group commander of the K-9 Company of the Army’s Intelligence Service Group.

Part of Philippine Military Academy “Matikas” Class of 1983, Quiapo took counter terrorism training at the school.

He also took the overseas joint warfare course at the Australian Defense Force Warfare Center, received a master’s degree in business management at the University of the Philippines and another master’s in security studies from the Australian Defense College.

In the active force, Quiapo was awarded with five Bronze Cross Medals, a Military Civic Action Medal, Silver Wing Medal and two distinguished Service Stars.
