Makati named most competitive city

MANILA, Philippines–The ongoing reforms being implemented by the city government to promote transparency was among the reasons Makati was cited as the country’s “Most Competitive City” at this year’s 2nd Regional Competitiveness Summit.

“This recognition strongly motivates us to work harder in improving our performance as a local government unit in the face of the growing challenges presented by rapid urbanization and climate change. I sincerely thank my fellow public servants in the city government of Makati for always going the extra mile to render excellent service to our constituents and stakeholders,” Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. said on Tuesday.

In the 2014 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), Makati ranked first in overall competitiveness among 136 participating cities.

The CMCI measured each city’s performance in terms of economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure. “For over two decades now, we have been able to sustain a high level of investor confidence because of the reforms we have put in place to promote transparency and efficient delivery of services,” Binay said.

He added that the city’s performance and operations were reviewed and graded by an independent team which made the award “very significant” for Makati.–Maricar B. Brizuela
