Classes suspended in Ilocos Norte due to heavy rain—Pagasa

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte, Philippines—Heavy rainfall brought about by the southwest monsoon prompted Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos to suspend classes in the elementary and secondary levels on Thursday.

Rains and lightning storms pounded the province as early as 5 a.m.

As of postimg time, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) recorded a 39-millimeter rainfall level here.

Coastal residents as well as those living in flood-prone villages in the towns of Solsona, Dingras, Paoay, Pasuquin and Bangui were advised to take precautionary measures and to immediately go to evacuation centers if needed.

Early this morning, Dingras mayor Erdio Valenzuela said they were monitoring two houses near the riverbank in Barangay Parado and Lumbad, which were threatened by landslide.

According to Valenzuela, affected families were advised to move to safer ground.

In Batac City, Vice Mayor Ronald Alan Nalupta said at least two temporary roads set up along the national highway because of on-going bridge construction in Barangay Tabug and Dariwdiw has been inundated by rising waters from the Quioit river. Motorists and 10-wheeler trucks were advised to take the airport road or the Currimao-Suba, Paoay road to avoid inconvenience.
