Wife of farmer with end-stage kidney disease asks for help

MANILA, Philippines—High school teacher Ester Artates is taking a break from teaching to appeal for help for her husband, Ely, who has been diagnosed to be suffering from end-stage kidney disease.

Ester has been teaching Araling Panlipunan for 35 years in San Fernando City, Pampanga.

“You know teachers like me, we are certified loaners. We are ‘loan-ly’ indeed. Even before this happened, I had outstanding loans for our own family’s needs,” the 60-year-old mother of four told the Inquirer. Her children are all married and have families of their own.

Saying that she has been the family’s breadwinner because her husband doesn’t earn much from farming, Ester said that Ely has been undergoing dialysis at the Pampanga Advance Renal Care center three times a week since last year.

“If we are able to raise the P48,000 we need for his August medical expenses, that will be a big help and we will be forever grateful to your readers,” she said.

Ester said that they could no longer claim anything from PhilHealth as her husband had already availed of the 45 dialysis sessions he was entitled to every year as a voluntary member.

Ester can be contacted at 0927-7291772. Those who may want to help her husband can deposit their donations in her Landbank account (Ester Artates/Account No.  0085068911).
