MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday said that the recent Pulse Asia survey results showing him as the top pick for president in the next elections was a “vote of confidence” from the people.

“Vice President Binay accepts with gratitude and humility the Pulse Asia survey results where 41 percent of our people consider him their top choice for president,” Vice Presidential spokesperson Joey Salgado said in a statement.

The latest Pulse Asia poll, conducted from June 24 to July 2, showed that Binay would have won by a landslide if presidential elections were held three weeks ago.

Binay also maintained a high net satisfaction rating, according to the Social Weather Stations survey conducted last June 27 to 30.

Although his rating fell by six percentage points, from an “excellent” +73 in March to a “very good” +67 in June, it was still the highest among the other top officials included in the poll.

“We recognize that the Pulse Asia and the latest Social Weather Stations surveys were conducted at a time when political developments could have affected satisfaction and trust with our top leaders and government in general. Nonetheless, the Vice President accepts the results of these surveys and will continue to work to improve the lives of our people,” Salgado said.

The interviews for the surveys were made amid the controversies surrounding the pork barrel fund and the Disbursement Acceleration Program.
