His visit to the Asian Eye Institute took 30 minutes and was brought back by a high security convoy to his hospital detention shortly after 8 a.m.

While the police hospital has its own eye specialist, it does not have the facility to attend to Enrile’s eye problem, Chief Superintendent Alejandro Advincula, director of the PNP Health Services said.

Enrile has a macular degeneration, an age related eye condition that may lead to blindness if untreated.

On July 5 and 6, the senator was brought to the same eye center for an eye injection and a follow up checkup.

Enrile’s eye procedure is done twice a month after the court allowed him to seek the treatment outside the police hospital.

The senator has been on hospital detention at an air-conditioned room inside the PNP Hospital after he surrendered to authorities in connection with the pork barrel scam.
