MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Wednesday assured employees of the People’s Television (PTV) Network that it is working to address their calls for salary increase and retirement benefits.

“We are addressing the concerns of PTV employees pertaining to their entitlement to certain benefits,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

Media reports said PTV Network employees have been protesting against their management after eight years of stagnant wages and irregular remittance of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) contributions. They also claimed that retirees have not been able to receive their incentive package.

Coloma claimed that most of the employees’ concerns were because of the “huge financial losses and deficits incurred under the previous management.”

“With the enactment of a new PTV charter at the initiative of the Aquino administration, PTV management has secured resources for rebuilding its operational capability and addressing the needs of the employees,” he said.

Coloma, who heads the Presidential Communications Operations Office, said discussions with the employees are already being held.
