Gesta wins by unanimous decision in Arizona

MERCITO “No Mercy” Gesta of Mandaue City continued his unbeaten run in the United States with a unanimous ten-round decision win over Manuel Perez of Colorado in a fight held at the BlueWater Resort and Casino in Parker, Arizona yesterday.

Gesta chased and peppered the defensive minded Perez with crisp punches enroute to a 98-92, 98-92, 99-91 decision.

Gesta improved to 23-0-1 (win-loss-draw) with 12 knockouts while Perez dropped 16-7-1 with four KOs.Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions last May.

Another unbeaten Top Rank boxer, Jose Benavidez (13-0, 12 KOs) knocked down Dedrick Bell (6-10, 4 KOs) twice and stopped him in the first round. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
