MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Monday said it is confident that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales will do what must be done, especially when it comes to going after those who allegedly benefited from the pork barrel scam.

“I am certain that the Office of the Ombudsman will file the necessary charges to those who they find to have probable cause,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a televised press briefing.

Lacierda, however, declined to comment on Morales’ earlier statement that the Office of the Ombudsman has enough evidence to pin down Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. for their alleged misuse of public funds.

“If there is probable cause against those respondents, we believe that the Ombudsman will not hesitate to file the necessary charges,” he said.

Back in April, the Ombudsman announced that it had found probable cause to file plunder and graft charges against the three lawmakers for allegedly receiving commission from Janet Lim-Napoles and her non-governmental organizations.

Morales was in the United States when she told the Filipino community in New York about her thoughts on the anomaly.

She said that since they already came up with a resolution stating probable cause and the Office of the Ombudsman believes “that the crimes were committed, that the respondents are probably guilty.”

Morales is set to file the plunder and graft charges against the three senators when she returns to the Philippines.
