Female police trainee dies after running test
ZAMBOANGA CITY – A female police aspirant died after she was made to jog three kilometers during a physical test conducted by training officials inside the regional police headquarters in Camp Abendan Mercedes here on Thursday.
In a statement, the Western Mindanao police information office identified the police trainee as Marichel Arcillos Dagsan, 25, of Alicia, Zamboanga del Sur.
The report said Dagsan was gasping for breath after completing the three-kilometer run, which was part of the required agility test, and was sent to the hospital around 9:45 a.m. She died past 6 p.m. Thursday.
According to the police news release, doctors concluded that Dagsan died of asphyxia.
It was also learned that she gave birth five months before she underwent training.
