MANILA, Philippines—The water level at the Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan is still normal Sonia Serrano, hydrologist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“The normal level we maintain is 180 meters above sea level (masl) and as of today, Angat Dam is 183.62 meters above sea level (masl), slightly higher that its low level of 180,” Serrano stated

The level of Angat rose from 183.35 masl to 183.65 masl today due to the slight rain in the past days. Serrano assured that the 3 meters above sea level (masl) difference from critical level is under control of the National Water Resources Board that regulates and monitors water utilities in the country

“As of today, the rule curve is slightly lower than normal, in terms of the necessity of water in power, irrigation, and the consumption in Metro Manila,” Serrano said.

She added that the water levels at four other dams in Luzon—the San Roque Dam in Pangasinan, the Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija, the Magat Dam in Cagayan, and the La Mesa Dam in Quezon City—were still above the average.

Serrano said that the water in Angat Dam will shift from normal to low level over the coming days since the rainy season is expected to come later than usual this year.

“Rainy season starts usually in the third or last week of May, but we can expect that it would be held off a little,” Serrano stated –Coleen Barnachea
