MANILA, Philippines — Robbers broke into the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) compound in Quezon City over the weekend and made off with employees’ valuables.

The robbery was discovered on Sunday afternoon by a roving security guard at the adjudication building of the HLURB on Kalayaan Avenue, Barangay Central.

Supt. Richard Fiesta, the Anonas police station chief, said an arbiter, lawyer Lorina Rigor, reported losing a P100,000 Toshiba laptop while three other employees were still accounting for their stolen valuables.

Fiesta noted that the HLURB was supposed to be a highly guarded government compound and that surveillance cameras have been installed at various points.

“It makes one curious as to why a lone robber managed to slip past their radar,” the official said.

The burglary was discovered at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday by a security guard who was patrolling the compound.

The watchman saw the door of the adjudication building half-open, and saw desks in disarray upon entering the office.

A review of the surveillance camera footage showed that at around 1:33 a.m. Sunday, an unidentified man was seen climbing over the perimeter wall of the compound.

Fiesta said he would recommend to the HLURB to have someone monitor the surveillance camera round-the-clock, and for the government agencies to place more security guards.

“I think their security guards lack alertness, that is probably why the robber managed to elude them,” the official added.
