MANILA, Philippines—Summer’s advent has not only brought higher temperatures, it has also lowered dam levels.

In an interview with INQUIRER Radio 990AM Thursday, Jeric Sevilla, head of corporate communications of Manila Water, said that the Angat Dam, the primary supplier of water to Metro Manila, is slowly losing volume.

Sevilla, however, assured that there is no need to fret as Manila Water is ready for higher demands of the summer season and that there is enough water for their customers.

“There’s nothing to be wary of for the customers,” Sevilla said. “They can count on us that even if the water level of the Angat Dam is slowly going down, we at the Manila Water are ready with our contingency plans.”

Sevilla said Angat Dam is currently at 190 meters, five meters lower than the “normal curve rule” at 195 meters but still higher than the “critical” 180 meters.

He added that the La Mesa Dam, one of the main water suppliers in Metro Manila, relies at the Angat Dam for its supply.

“We projected that if the hot months continue until July or August, we can use the deep wells and we have intensified the repairs of leaks so that we can make sure that the water goes to the right consumers.”
