Pagasa: It’s summer…err ‘dry season’
MANILA, Philippines—Brace for warmer and sunny days ahead as the state weather agency on Wednesday declared the termination of the northeast monsoon.
“The northward migration of the Siberian High Pressure Area, and the establishment of the Ridge of North Pacific High Pressure Area that extended to the north of the country have shifted the wind direction from northeasterly to easterly,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It added that “these synoptic conditions signified the recession of the northeast monsoon.”
The easterlies is the prevailing weather system during dry season. It is usually known in the Philippines as “summer,” but Pagasa earlier said in a report that this term is only applicable to areas with four seasons. The northeast monsoon was responsible for the cool weather the past few months.
Gradual increase of the daily temperature is forecast in most parts of the country in the coming days.
“Weather conditions will be mostly hot and sunny associated with warm and humid air with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, particularly, over the eastern section,” Pagasa said.
Strong easterly winds will prevail, most especially in the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao with occurrence of moderate to rough coastal waters.
