Truck delivery helper arrested for conspiring to rob P183K worth of grocery

MANILA, Philippines—A truck delivery helper, disgruntled after he was allegedly denied his overtime pay, is now in jail and facing charges after conspiring to rob and empty out a truck full of groceries in Valenzuela City.
Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento, the Valenzuela City police chief, said that the suspect, identified as Alex Formalejo, 28, a delivery helper of the PTC Commercial Corp in Balangkas, Valenzuela, and a resident of Tondo, Manila, would be charged with robbery for the crime he committed last week.
In a report filed at the Northern Police District, Armamento said two other men conspired with Formalejo in the heist but as of Wednesday, they remained at large.
The robbery happened on March 10 at around 1 p.m., while Formalejo and a truck driver from the same company, identified as Jerry Quimosing, were carrying over P183,531.57 worth of groceries to be delivered to supermarkets in Valenzuela and Quezon City.
On its way to a supermarket in Fairview, the truck made a stop. Two other men began talking to Formaleho and Quimosing. When they had finished, one of the men followed them inside the truck, pulled a .38-caliber gun, and told them that he needed the contents of the truck and nothing else. The other man followed them from a separate vehicle.
The robber then told Quimosing to drive to Kabesang Imo, Barangay Balangkas, Valenzuela. When they reached the place, the robber told Formalejo and Quimosing to get off the truck and then seized their company-issued phones, driving the truck away.
Formalejo and Quimosing stayed put where they were dropped by the robbers, but it was not clear from the police report if the robbers had told them they would be returning the truck. The police report only stated that after two hours, the robber returned with the truck, now empty, and turned it over to Formaleho and Quimosing. The two then reported the robbery to the police and their company.
A day after the robbery, while the two were delivering another set of groceries, Formalejo admitted to Quimosing that he conspired with the two men to execute the heist. Formalejo said that he did it after their company refused to pay him for his overtime work.
Formalejo treated Quimosing to a meal at a fastfood chain after meeting up once again with the two robbers.
After hearing Formalejo’s story, Quimosing decided to report Formalejo’s involvement in the crime to their employers. Formalejo was arrested on March 12.
