MANILA, Philippines – A shuttle bus owned by the operator of the Skyway fell from the elevated highway on Sunday after it was hit by a sports utility vehicle cruising on the same lane in Paranaque City, police said.

Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte, director of the Southern Police District, said in a text message that the driver of the shuttle bus Allan Nopal suffered injuries in the fall. He was brought to the Paranaque Doctors’ Hospital for treatment.

The accident happened at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday along the Skyway just in front of the Amaia Condo in Barangay (village) San Valley in Paranaque City just after the driver of the bus had dropped off passengers.

Villacorte said initial investigation showed that the bus was traveling the southbound lane of the Skyway when a Toyota Fortuner bumped into it. Because of the impact, the driver lost control of the vehicle, thus falling off from the elevated highway.

It landed on the service road, fortunately hitting no passengers or vehicles below the Skyway.

The driver of the Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, was unhurt after the accident, police said.
