Korean shot dead
A Korean tourist was killed after he was shot by one of two men on a motorcycle in Barangay (village) Anunas in this city on Tuesday night, police said.
Investigators said Her Tae Suk, 65, was walking toward the Prism Hotel on Clarkview Avenue with three other Koreans at 7:45 p.m. when the suspects approached them. One of the suspects drew a 9mm pistol and shot Her several times, police said.
Her’s companions—Lee Jae Woo, 37; Jung Jon Gik, 37; and Park Jeung Keun, 37—were unhurt and able to run when the shooting started. The Korean Community Association of Central Luzon, which has an office at “Korean Town,” a district along the Fil-Am Friendship Highway where most Koreans in the city live, has been airing concern about crimes against Koreans.
Last month, two men on a motorcycle shot and wounded a Korean. The suspects took the $20,000 the Korean had just withdrawn from a bank here. Jun Malig, Inquirer Central Luzon

German found dead
A German tourist, who was reported missing after a kite-boarding accident in Barangay (village) Saud in Pagudpud town in this province on Saturday, was found dead on Tuesday, reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said.
Pedro Agcaoili, spokesperson of the Ilocos Norte PDRRMC, said a team of policemen and Philippine Coast Guard personnel found the body of Carlsten Clewin, 41, in the remote village of Caparispisan, some 5 kilometers from where he was last seen kite-boarding in Saud beach.

Power firm plants
At least half a million tree seedlings had been planted in a 7,500-hectare carbon sink of a power company here.
The seedlings had been planted by the Sarangani Energy Corp. (SEC), main proponent of the 210-megawatt power plant here.
The construction of the coal plant went ahead amid strong opposition from religious, militant and environment groups.
The carbon sink, dubbed as SEC Watershed Protection Project, straddles the hinterland villages of Amsipit, Pananag, Lumatil, Kablacan, Nomoh and Bales in this town. It was set up primarily to absorb the carbon dioxide emission of the coal plant. Aquiles Z. Zonio, Inquirer Mindanao
