Palace to Marcos: Feel free to probe ‘Yolanda’ rehab efforts

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday said it won’t stand in the way of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. if he wanted to probe the rehabilitation efforts in typhoon-hit areas.
“It’s his prerogative to call for a hearing. But for those of us who have been following the Faith website, the pledges of assistance are all there,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said at a Palace press briefing.
The spokesperson was referring to the Foreign Aid Transparency Hub (Faith) where the pledges of assistance from different countries and organizations are listed and detailed.
It was in response to Marcos’ statement that he will call for a Senate inquiry about how the funding for Super Typhoon “Yolanda” victims was spent.
The chairman of the senate committee on public works also complained of the slow turnover of bunkhouses to “Yolanda” survivors.
But Lacierda said the turnover of temporary shelters is ongoing and that the government is determined to rebuild the structures and the lives of the residents.
He said they will also detail the government expenditures for the rebuilding of typhoon-hit areas.
