‘Please help us get to Taiwan for my son’s liver operation’

Luke Andrei Mahinay

Luke Andrei Mahinay was just three months old when doctors diagnosed him with biliary atresia, a disease in which the liver has no ducts for draining bile, causing irreparable damage to the vital organ. Now one and a half years old, he must immediately undergo surgery.

“Time is of the essence because specialists have told us that once a baby turns one year old, his chances for survival become dimmer unless he undergoes a liver transplant,” Sherryl Mahinay, his mother, told the Inquirer.

Through the kindness of their families, relatives and friends, she and her husband, Rodel, a junk shop owner, have already overcome the bigger obstacle, which is to raise P4 million for the operation at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan.

All they need now is P250,000 for airfare and lodging as they will be on their own when they get there.

“If you can help add years to my son’s life, please help us,” she said.

Sherryl Mahinay can be reached at 0921-4780132. Donations can be deposited in her Metrobank account (Account No. 33821-55824) or Baby Luke’s Banco de Oro account (Account No. 007860032012).
